Back to Marysville
Sometime Late in 1999 I decided to see if I could possibly move up to Northern California and still be employed. Jan and I had large family, 6 children and 20+ grandchildren. I had a great job with a great company at EAFB but the majority of my family was in Marysville California. Several individuals I had previously worked with we’re working at Beale Air Force Base, on the U-2 for various contractors.
In 1999 it happened that the SatCom contract had just been won by Harris Corporation from L3 and Harris would be looking for engineers to fill positions. The requirements included having top secret and above security clearances. Fortunately my job at EAFB required the clearances Harris Corporation desired. I sent a resume up to one of my friends and he passed it around and I got a call from Harris Corporation requesting an interview.
Fortunately the next weekend I was going to take off early on Friday from work and drive to Marysville. The Harris man doing the hiring was going to be leaving late Friday on a flight out of Sacramento to Fort Lauderdale. I told him I would meet him at the airport around 7:30PM for an interview. He had read my resume and after about an hour of talking offered me a job. The salary I was offered was not quite what I was making it EAFB but the chance to get near family was the decider. I accepted and arranged with the security manager for the necessary paperwork so I could start work immediately.
Jan and I had purchased in 1995 Ford Aerostar XL. We removed the two bench seats and that became our moving van. I still had sufficient strength to move quite a few things into the van, with Jan’s help, about every weekend and bring them to Marysville. For the final move. I rented a truck, and a co-worker from Harris and I brought the final larger objects to Marysville. I can’t remember dropping or not having the enough strength to assist in the moving.
