About
Welcome to my world of IBM!
The main purpose of this blog is to chronicle my experience with Inclusion Body Myositis IBM. The timeline will be from the late 1990’s to the present day. IBM is in the muscular dystrophy line of diseases. For more information on IBM you can go to the myositis.org or other websites that will explain in detail which muscles of the body are affected. My experience is that it progresses rather slowly and I was fortunate to get a diagnosis early enough to understand how it would affect me as I got older. I am now 88 years old, and in fairly good health except for IBM.
In my younger years, at least up until I was 65, I led a rather active athletic life. I played most sport, was fairly good at some, and as I got older, golf and playing racquetball became my favorites. My job required quite a lot of travel and as a result, it became obvious that carrying around my racquetball equipment was a lot easier then lugging golf clubs through airport terminals. My pastime in my travels was spent playing racquetball at any facility that I could walk into, pay a fee, and play on the challenge court. I also played in many tournaments and was fairly consistent in placing first or second in my age bracket no matter where I played. IBM came on me slowly and put a stop to all my athletic endeavors.
I hope that by blogging on this website, people will understand how to recognize the symptoms of IBM and hopefully prepare for its long term effects.
I invite others with IBM, or suspicious of having IBM to share their experiences.
