As my weakness progressed, it became obvious that I was going to need some form of transportation that would accommodate a power wheelchair. I located a Chrysler van with a wheelchair platform that extended out the back of the van and lowered to the ground. Once I lowered the platform I would drive the the wheelchair on it, raise the platform into the back of the van and I could close the back of the van. Leaning against the van, I could make it to the driver side, get in and drive to where I wanted to go. Once at my location I had to reverse the procedure get out of the van leaning on it, work my way to the back open the tailgate, use the remote to back the wheelchair platform out and down to the ground close the van up and go to my appointment or classes.

When it became harder and harder to get to the back of the van it became necessary to replace Van #1 with Van #2, that had a side ramp that would enable driving the wheelchair in to the van. Luckily my daughter Jeannie was able to find a van locally at a very good price that had been professionally configured for a handicapped person. It had a ramp that came out the side enabling me to drive a wheelchair into the van, tie down the wheelchair, with ratchetting anchors, for security and have someone else drive me do my locations. The anchor devices were provided by daughter Ruth. That is my present method of transportation at this time.
